Amazon.com Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description The HD5112 starts with high-definition AM/FM reception and adds plenty more, including playback of CD, CD-R/RW, CD-DA, and MP3/WMA CDs. Add a front-panel USB port, SD card, iPod support, and an auxiliary input, and you have a great system with cutting-edge features at an affordable price.

Tune into your iPod with the HD5112. Click to enlarge.

Built-in HD Radio Tuner
HD radio technology allows CD-quality digital broadcasting of your local AM and FM radio stations. HD radio broadcasts can include multiple channels on the same frequency, which is called multicasting. With multicasting, you can receive up to three additional multicast channels: HD2, HD3, HD4. With your HD5112 radio, you will receive HD radio digital broadcasts automatically when tuned to a station that offers HD radio technology. Learn more about HD radio in our handy guide on the topic.

Satellite Radio Ready
With a subscription to XM or Sirius satellite radio, you'll enjoy access to a ton of music, news, talk shows, sports, and traffic information with CD-quality sound throughout the United States.

Of course, there's standard radio as well. Pull up one of your favorites instantly with six FM and six AM presets.

Front-panel USB input for streaming MP3/WMA files.

Full-featured remote control. Click to view remote functions.

Connect your iPod using the jLink cable, sold separately. Click to enlarge.

Supports MP3/WMA Files via CD-R/RW, SD card, or USB
The HD5112 can play MP3/WMA directly from files contained on a CD-R/RW, SD card, or USB device using the buttons on the receiver. Burn a disc or just quickly drag some files to a USB jump drive or SD card, and head out the door with your latest faves.

Installing a USB device is simple--insert your USB thumb drive into the USB slot on the front of the radio, and the unit will automatically search for MP3 and WMA files on the device and begin playback. Same goes for insertion of an SD card under the front panel.

Made for iPod
This unit is equipped with an iPod-ready function that will allow you to control your iPod (if compatible) using the front panel control buttons. Just hook up your iPod with the included jLink iPod cable and take your iTunes library on the road. The following iPod versions are supported:

  • iPod classic 3G (Firmware version 2.2 only), 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G
  • iPod mini
  • iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G

Input/Output
The HD5112 features a 3.5-mm auxiliary input for connecting external devices like MP3 players. If you need a little more power, you can use the rear pre-amp line output to send to an external amplifier.

Customize your Sound
No matter your audio source, dial in settings to get just the sound you need. Use one of three EQ presets--along with bass/treble, balance, and fader settings--or switch on the Loudness feature to optimize listening at low levels.

Remote Control
Included with the HD5112 is an infrared remote for controlling most of the device's basic functions.

What's in the Box
Jensen HD5112, sleeve, wiring harness, trim ring, installation hardware, remote control, manual.

4 out of 5 stars About as expected   January 23, 2010
Gerald S. Sibits Jr. (Cleveland, OH)
Not the most powerful receiver but the sound was better than expected. Had some issues initially but once I used the reset button, it worked fine. I use it in my spare vehicle and for the price, I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't used all the features but it does play the mp3 just fine. The HD feature is a little annoying as it goes in and out of HD. Plus, on some stations it keeps looping back a couple of seconds. Never had this happen with any other radios. For a spare vehicle and occasional use, I like it.

4 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect   October 21, 2009

Great Cd player, with tons of features. The only down side is that my iPod just didn't quite work with it, but otherwise it is perfect. Great buy.

4 out of 5 stars Great Unit for the Money   October 11, 2009
D. Killion (Tucson, AZ)
I purchased this for about $55 from Amazon. You can't beat the features for the money. I installed this a few months ago in my Jeep and all the features (that I have tried) are still working great. The ipod control through the deck is not the best. It doesn't seem to always follow the playlist like it's supposed to. My unit came with the J-link cable (unlike what some people reported). Overall I would recommend this unit if you want a lot for the money.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent at $50, but a joke at $150   September 14, 2009
Bryan Paschke (St. Charles, MO USA)
I think I got one of the good ones. Everything I've tested (I don't have an ipod, I'm cheap) works just fine and has for the last 3 months.

pros: Works, decent sound, good HD tuner, was a good value at $50...and WALMART still carries the unit at that price.

cons: THE PROGRAMMERS ARE LAZY IDIOTS. The head will happily read a 4 gig SD card (not hd SD, but just SD) or USB device, but WILL ONLY ACCESS THE FIRST 256 SONGS. IDIOTS. Further, the display only scrolls THE FIRST 40 CHARACTERS of path, title and MP3 info in each of these modes. I've heard it does better with the ipod....I would hope so!

Overall: good value if you don't buy it at $150. I suspect that people who are having trouble with reliability did a half-***ed job of installation. I anchored mine properly with a decent custom install kit, braced it securely, soldered the connections and haven't had any troubles.

3 out of 5 stars Complicated!!!   September 5, 2009
Daniel G. Links (New Mexico)
This Jensen stereo is great for playing my ipod, or the radio, but is complicated when trying to play an SD card. It is NOT INTUITIVE!

I can play MP3s on my PC easily, but this requires learning their method of storing songs.

It has one oddity that I haven't troubleshot yet, it will be playing music on the radio and it will self switch to the ipod and visa versa. I don't know if it is defective or I am not doing something wrong.

I would want something that is more intuitive for my next purchase, less time consuming to learn operations
